Hello, I have searched these forums over and over and have not found the answer to the question I am going to ask. As others have done in the past I loosened the piviot screw on the side of the lower unit when changing the L/U oil. I believe that the prop had been spun after the screw was loose. I have read the repair manual on how to fix this problem but is does not mention and neither do any previous posts on how tighten the screw and set the controls so that the motor shifts into the gears properly. Any help is greatly appriciated.

It's possible you didn't move anything in there.Replace it and try.
If then it won't work then get a manual and go from there.J

I believe most of the post I've looked at stated that if the motor is not disturbed ,you can usually just put the screw back in and keep going ,but if things have been moved you will have to drop the lower unit and reattach it the hard way[this would be a good time to replace the water pump too, if it hasn't already been replaced in the last 2-3 years]. Have you tried to replace the screw and see how ti works ? keep us posted on your results

Re: 1988/89 Force 125 piviot screw problem

I am working on a 1989 Force 85 HP L-Drive and made the same mistake. :( I have a SELOC Manual and it does not give a way to realign the cam on the shaft.

Does anyone have any ideas? I have the Gear Housing Cover off and can see part of the cam but cannot see the business end of it which is where it connects to the prop shaft.
