1988 85 hp model#858f8b swirl charged induction no spark#3

well i finally got the neighbor to come over and i switched the cdi wires to coils just the ones that goes to the coils from the cdi boxes and pow the #3 has spark and now the #1 and #2 dont so im guessing its the cdi box for #3 coil is bad????? , does that sound right ????? and Thank all who have helped and also you foodfisher for setting me straight there in the begining, when i was 1988 force 85 hp shop manual .. help , give me your thoughts
