I have a 1988 50hp force, I sometimes have a problem at WOT the motor starts to miss. This does not happen all the time 2 twice out of 7 times in the water if i bring it down to idle or low speed it runs fine. I did the whole electrical test i replaced the trigger only to find out that the manul was wrong on the test leads. everthing test out fine. i took the carb apart and that was very clean no gum or debri, i check the screen on the fuel line that was also clean. it does not over heat has new waterpump, the ign, is all ok all leads ohm out. No broken wire on the heat shrinks dont know what else to check. The compression is right at 135 on both cyl. book call for 125-145, change plungs every 3 times i have it out, the only thing i noticed is that the top plung #1 is alittle more wet then the bottom plug. If i pull the plugs off i get spark on both cylinders???? the whole motor itself only has tops 40 hours motor was only used 3 seasons before i bought it which at that time it was in storage for 10 years. the motor is very clean inside and out looks brand new.
