Wondering what I should be doing in the way of preventive maintenance ( if anything ) on a fresh water 1988 5.0 merc exhaust system.

Not seeing much in the manual I own // Just want to ensure I am not overlooking anything.

Thanks!!

I would pull the manifolds and risers to inspect for cracks, excessive corrosion, blockage, check the flappers, touch up any paint that has flaked off manifolds and reinstall with fresh gaskets.

Don

I have a Seloc manual and recently borrowed a Clymer Mercruiser manual which seems to have much better detail.

I found some info. on pg. 238 of the Merc manual engine section but could use some experienced advice on the practical side of this.

Most of my exhaust experience to date has been auto's & sort of learning as I go for a hobby on the marine maintenance. I worked at Midas Muffler at one time. With auto exhaust running until something breaks is the accepted practice but you rarely get the added pleasure of replacing internal engine parts.

Any thoughts would be appreciated on; Preventive maintenance verses unnecessary and perhaps temperature measurements for problem indicatiors (etc) .

90 stingray Thanks for the advice above!.
Thanks!!!
