This is part number 689 45344 00 94. Before I start to pry and possbly destroy this cover does any person have suggestions for its removal. ? Does the driveshaft need to be removed ? The seals are leaking so that there is air leaking out with about 8 lbs of pressure and slight water intrusion. I have a Chilton manual which seems to avoid the process. Also leaves out pressure and vacuum numbers for testing the lower unit. And then my mind wanders. With the seals both facing up, according to the Yamaha wisdom it seems that a pressure test will inevitably leak air at the driveshaft and seal. I think this as all other outboards with two seals the lips either face each other or go back to back. This is done to prevent water intrusion and lubricant rising up and leaking. This lower unit takes less lubricant to a lower level than most lower units therefore lube leakage is not so much of a problem as water intrusion..Those are my thoughts getting carried away. I really need to know about removing and replacing the two seals part numbers 93101 22067 00 and the removal of the oil seal cover 689 45344 00 94.
