Looking at going in on a used boat w/ my brother. We are looking at a 24 ft boat with twin 1987 Yamaha 150hps. We are hearing that if the engines were serviced well that they should still be useable (we don't know how many hours have been on them). Some friends are telling us that while Yamaha is a good engine that with that age we should just buy new engine or twins which will then adjust our offer to buy the boat. This would be for salt water use. Are these reliable motors at this age...would a mechanic be able to really give us a thumbs up after checking them out or say that they appear ok but with their age who knows? I don't want to spend $300-$500 to get that response from a mechanic.<br /><br />Any thoughts would be appreciated
