I was given a 14x48 aluminium boat with an '87 suzuki DT40 2-stroke that had sat up for just over 10 years. It's an oil injected motor converted to fuel injected and had compression on the first pull since pulling it out of my uncles backyard so I changed the spark plugs, fuel connectors, fuel lines, fuel tank, and fuel filter. I wasn't getting any fire so I pulled the flywheel and cleaned the magneto with emery cloth and got fire right away. I disassembled the entire carburetor and soaked it, rinsed it, and blew it out. I am now getting it to start on the first pull and with ears it runs like a top in neutral, forward, and reverse. If I put it in the water and put it in gear it simply will not run right at all, almost like it's dropping a cylinder under a load. Thats in forward and reverse. Only thing I can think would be the cdi unit is bad, but would like to explore all options before I break the bank on one. Any help is greatly appreciated!
