Short and Sweet: Looks to be in good condition, has a brand new 2500.00 camper top, interior and gel coat are nice, has had bellows job this year + cable, + many tune up parts. Water got in cyl 4 and now engine has a knock. Comes with a slip until Oct 20th, has a trailer also. $4900 is the asking price.

Is this a decent deal? I plan to pull the engine this year and put on a pallet until I can find a truck engine to convert over to marine.

Is it running well enough to sea trial it? Are you able to verify hull/stringer/transom integrity (lack of water infioltration)? If you know for a fact that it ONLY needs a motor, it might be an okay deal.

^^^^^^^^^^

What he said.

If you have to replace the motor step up to a 350/260 HP, sundancers are heavy.

Definitely take a sea trial if possible. Other than that, sounds like an alright deal.

That boat most likely already has a 454 in it...if not it IS a 350/260 Those were the only motors available for that critter.

If that was ever a saltwater boat, I would shy away from it. If you can document its freshwater history, then it's worth whatever you are willing to pay for it. :D

A boat in the condition you've described here in the Midwest might bring $1500 to $2500. The new camper canvas is irrelevant to the value of the boat for you, since the previous owner paid for it, and thus takes the loss. The value of the slip is also unimportant as you won't be getting much use from it for its intended purpose. As the saying goes, a vehicle (car, truck, motorcycle, boat, airplane) is usually worth more for the sum total of its parts, than as a non-running machine. Offer him/her $3000 and be prepared for them accepting on the spot.

CYL #4, not 4 CYL, I see that now, mindya didn't they come with 4.3 LT????.

That would still be small for a 25 foot sundancer, glad we got twin 260's in our 270 sundancer.

$5000 for an unknown boat with a bad motor? I can't even get a nibble for a boat asking a little more in the water ready to go.

I think thats a lot of money to ask for a 87 model with a bad motor, even if it does have a new top.

With a good running engine and a serviceable dual axle trailer in mint condition - - maybe. What you describe is a 24 year old rig that needs an engine, trailer and god knows what else. I wouldn't at any price -

Not even, dont do it........I bought an '88 Wellcraft 210 with working and running everything, some minor scratches on the gelcoat (fixed em) and needed a bilge pump for $5k with trailer. And it runs great, no issues. Interior could use redo, but its actually not that bad. Maybe in a couple years.

Boat does have a trailer. I am not sure where these low ball numbers are coming from but on lake erie, the sea rays are well respected due to their reputation to good hull quality and handle chop very well. They bring about 6-13k depending on how nice. The problem is this is the end of the season, so it is not a time to sell.

What would be a good offer?

They ask $6-13k or sell for $6-13k? This is a boat with a shot motor, if it had a good motor I would think the price wasn't bad. I bought a 27'er with bad motors on a trailer for $1200 a few years back.
