When I turn the key and the motor will turn over, turn key off, then turn on again and the fuse will be blown...

Power runs from the battery (red wire) thru the fuse to a red/purple wire, which goes to the ign switch. When the ign switch is in the run position, power is supplied to the purple wire. The purple wire will power the gauges, so trace it out. Look for some kind of short circuit on the purple wire. Look for rubbed off insulation, melted insulation or a spot where the purple wire is pinched or broken. Sometimes gauges can internally short, but that is rare.

Is the right fuse size being used ? Are the fuse holder clips tight enough ? Somehow find out what size / amps. it should be.

Turns out it was a simple dumb goof on my part, when I pulled the carbs I had to disconnect the primer solenoid and when I put everything back on, I put the yelo/black & yelo wires on the post that actually screws into the motor...oops! another senior moment.

Hate to tell you, but when they start, they also get going more frequently ! I now count the days I don't have a senior moment !!
