1987 johnson 9.9hp Throttle is Sticky?

I have had my Johnson 9.9 for a year now, its been in the family for over 10 years now. The throttle is pretty sticky, it takes a bit of force to get it moving. When I mean throttle, I mean the twist grip. I just would like to know a way to make it easy to twist. \

Try turning the throttle plate by hand before pulling things apart.

Im sorry, were is that? Is it the plate the connects to the carb?

It's the plate under the flywheel (retainer and support underneath) -- gets stiff from some old lube, maybe corrosion. Engine off -- Try turning it by hand to see if that's what's binding. Might be able to free it up by turning it a little by hand -- would need to have the engine in gear to turn the throttle fully open (clockwise).

(ed. "throttle plate" probably misleading -- armature plate in your parts list, or retainer and plate. Whole assembly moves as a unit.)

Do you have a throttle lock on it and if you do is it tightened down
