I've been working on a 28 hp johnson, 1987 I'm pretty sure. My question is this, does it have an electric type fuel shut off on the fuel line between the fuel pump and carburater? If that is what the black cylindrical shaped gizmo with the red lever toward the back side, how does it work? I guess I should say, does it matter which way the lever points? It was facing the rear at first but the engine would run for about 2-3 seconds and die. I turned the lever crossways to the cylinder and the motor runs good without dying. However; I get this feeling that fuel is leaking through and into the engine. It sounded like it was flooded yesterday when I tried to start it, and gas poured out the exhaust when it turned over. Leaking float valve?
Any help would be deeply appreciated. Thanks, Eddie
