I've read on here to stay away from the OMC powerplants, this ones the OMC 4.3, not sure which outdrive. Guy claims it's immaculate, even the carpet stands straight up, and it all looks like it's a brand new boat. Would it even be something worth looking at being OMC powered?

In 1987 it would be an OMC outdrive. Later on some of the drives were actually Volvo SX with OMC just before OMC bailed from the business. 1987 I would keep looking, even though the 195 is a very solid little cuddy.

OMC put the full power package together. They got the block from GM then added the stuff to adapt for use in a boat. They then put their Cobra outdrive on it.

A nice boat with an obsolete power package. The 4.3L engine is basically the same as the one used today by Volvo and Mercruiser. That isn't the problem. It is the OMC specific stuff that may present challenges. The "batwing" exhaust manifolds are one thing that are hard to source.

The entire outdrive portion of the package, while a good design, is often misunderstood and no longer easy to get service or parts for.

If you really like the boat and know of a service tech willing and able to work on the outdrive, I would throw the guy a low offer on the premise that the drive package is obsolete. It could turn out to be a great boat for you. When it comes time to do major service work it may be a great platform for a repower.
