The trim on my 1987 225 Evinrude quit working. I pulled it off the motor and took it apart and found a broken brush spring on the motor. I can clean it up and install a new spring but am thinking about just putting a new electric motor on. It wasn't much fun removing the unit and I' don't want to do it again if I don't have to!

I looked around for replacement motors and many are listed but they have the wires running out the top of the motor and are a 1 piece housing.

My trim motor has wires coming out of the bottom of a 2 piece housing.

Follow up - I opted to just replace the broken brush spring and clean the commutator on the electric motor. So far so good! It was a little tricky finding new o ring seals. I guess time will tell!

Thanks guys, It was very rewarding at the lake today to have the boat perform like it was supposed to and to know that I had something to do with it. Thanks to everyone here! it is always comforting to know that there are so many who will chime in on projects that would most certainly be over my head without the advise I get here! boobie, you have been instrumental over the years helping me though so many projects. Thanks again! BTW, I used to be crowbars but lost the email associated with that account so I'm here now as drcrowe.
