I was at a friends to help him replace the impeller. We got the lower unit split form the mid section but the shifter is still connected and for the life of me I couldn't not figure out WHERE its still connected. i did a google search for the parts list and a you tube search for a how to....A few videos showa nut on the starbord side inside the split of the two shafts, other videos show a threaded shifter rod that needs to be disconnected.... im not there now to look but he sent pictures after the fact and I dont see anything! Any help would be greatly appreciated

Follow these steps in order.----------Put one bolt in the lower unit to hold it in its normal position.--------Then remove the black plastic water intake screen.---------Then undo the shift rod connecter found there.-----------Now slide the upper nut up the shift rod ( may require paint to be scraped off ) if never done before.-------------Now remove the wee black plastic keeper , it is split and comes off.-------Remove lower unit.

Thank you racerone. Thats EXACTLY what we figured out....the hard way! I never came into this before, my lower unit (90 hp) just slipped right off in the past. I figured out the screen but had to call a friend of mine about the plastic bushing lol After all was said and done my friend went to the bay for a test run.....forgot the plugs and was running on LAST SEASONS fuel! No, he never made it out lol I suggested a SEA TOW membership!
