I have a 1987 Evinrude 175hp outboard. I got it with the carbs rebuilt and installed. The person who took it apart did not note the routing of these hoses before removing them. I have looked in two manuals and the design they show for the fuel recirculation hoses does not match. According to the manual the lines go back into the cylinder bypass covers. On my engine I do not have a fitting to go into the bypass covers, so where do I run my lines? I have not been able to find a diagram without cylinder bypass covers, or any diagram that matches my situation. Thanks!

This is for a 1988 Model, your's should be the same. Check for 2 nipples below each carb.

Thanks for the help. Finally got some time yesterday to try it out. Do you know the idle rpm when in the water?

Engine warmed up, in gear, idling forward in the water 650 +/- 50 RPM.

Hey FED, Spring is here im back on the boat. The diagram you sent me is pretty close to running right. I have a couple questions.
1. All of the check valves under the carbs all go in an out direction from the manifold. How does this work properly if they are all pushing against each other? I had it ran like you suggested and there was a lot of oil and the check valves were clogged. Do you have any ideas?

2. I tested the primer solenoid per the manual and it passed the ohm test. However we pulled apart a joint while the engine was running a full stream of gasoline sprayed across the width of the boat like a garden hose.

Any type of information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I will try that thanks very much,I have been fighting this engine for a long time I thought it was the carbs leaking fuel but come to figure out the last guy had the boat left two hoses off under second carb didn't realize it had a recirculation system but thanks again

When these engines left the factory there was a disc on top of the block with a serial #.-----Powerhead may have been swapped at some time.----Not going to happen , but if you walked over I could show you one of these 175 big bore crossflow engines !----Good luck with it.

Thanks for the post I have the 150 model that I think I need to clean my check valves. Getting a lot of the black goo coming out from below the cowling running down the back of the motor. Especially after running the muffs or slow speed days..
