Hi everyone, I've been reading the forums forever now and just can't seem to get my questions answered so here goes...

Like the title says I have a 1987 bayliner ciera sunbridge 2150 with a 2.3l ford 4cyl and an omc cobra outdrive. I despise this entire set up for so many reasons. With that said, I went out and bought a "donor" boat to do a full guts and engine swap. The new/old boat is a 1987 cobia with a fully working mercruiser 5.7l V8/260 alpha 1 outdrive. I want to remove everything from my original boat and put this entire mercruiser set up in my new boat.

Question 1: is the transom cutout the same from the cobra to the alpha 1?

Question 2: has anybody ever done this with success and possibly pictures?

Thanks in advance for the help guys

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,..... The transom hole is the same, though ya might need to trim abit, or not,.....

Ya, I do refits quite regularly, but ain't got a picture dialog of the process,.....

Basic story line is, Strip out the OMC junk, clean, inspect, 'n repair the motor bed, transom, etc,....
Bolt in the transom assembly, hang the motor off the transom assembly, slide in the alignment bar, mark, 'n build up the new motor mounts,....
Drop in the motor, align it, hook everything up, slap the drive on, 'n Go Boatin',.....

oh man, you guys just made me breathe a huge sigh of relief. with it being as easy as a plus and play application I'm surprised more people haven't done one. just to be absolutely sure though here are a few pictures of my transom and engine. you are absolutely positive that the cutout and bolts will basically mount right in on thenew mercruiser?

Hey good luck with this transplant. I am doing the same one on my bayliner. Mine is taking longer as i have some prework to do with the drive and engine. However, I am expecting a straight forward swap once a get to that point.
