we just bought a 1987 Bayliner Capri and the trim went down but now it will not go up. Is there a fuse? or what else may be the cause of this.

there may be a fuse..but if it goes down but not up it is probably either a loose/bad wire or the tilt/trim switch or most likely the trim relay.

Also likely to be the trim limit switch on the outdrive. Either gone bad, or just needs adjustment.

Need to identify what outdrive (OMC, Mercruiser, L-Drive) or outboard (Force) and post in the appropriate forum, or have this moved by a moderator.

Re: 1987 Bayliner Capri Trim problems

I just went through this. If the tilt motor doesn't make noise in the up direction do the following:
There's a relay for each direction. Check them by swapping. If you can go up but not down you have your culprit.
If it's not that, it's the switch or wiring. Mine ended up being a pulled wire at the switch. The motor is bi-directional so you can bench test a two-wire motor right on the battery. unlikely it's fried for only one direction.

If the motor makes noise but nothing moves, it's probably leaky hydraulics and I'm not familiar with that (yet).
