I just purchased a 1987 15" Boston Whaler Super Sport Limited, with a 1987 70 HP Yamaha, 2 stroke oil injected outboard.

Motor runs great, but the power tilt & trim won't hold the motor where you set it. If I set the trim while underway, after 2-3 minutes the motor is all the way in the down position. Also if I tilt the motor completely up/out of the water, over about five minutes it drops down into the water.

Any ideas in what to look for?

Thanks!

Maybe you should check the tilt manual bypass screw
to see if it is open.

Kinglg,

I cheked the manual by-pass screw last night and it appears to be tight. I opened and closed it a few times and it seems to close down tight.

Is it posible the cylinder seals are leaking by from the bottom to top?

Thanks for your help!

Sounds Like it could be bad seals. Look and see if any oil is dripping or present near the pistons.
