fpctim,

WOT won't hurt that engine if:

1. You are within your operating range 4500-5500.

2. It is cooling properly.

3. It is in good shape with proper (quality) fuel/oil mix. Premium fuel is not needed.

However, you will save up to 1/3 in fuel if you back down to 3/4 throttle (about 4000-4500) rpm.

I had an '83' 50 hp. that I would frequently run at close to WOT for up to 40 miles-one way.

fpctim,

If your boat has the standard side mount control box, there is a plug in the back of the box (just below the key) for a tach. It is a triangular shaped plug with three terminals.

You can buy a tach. at just about any marine outlet. You can even check here on the iboats mega mall. Most of the marine guage companies also sell the OMC adapter harness.
