What issues if any would I run into swapping out a 1987 4.3 205 for a used 1998 Vortec 4.3 marine engine that is complete including carb, intake and exhaust manifolds, and all accessories. I'd have to run an electric fuel pump, but that is not a big deal. Thanks!

None except the fuel pump. Do you at least have the wiring harness on the new engine? otherwise you will need to wire up the fuel pump through an oil pressure switch .

I think michigan motorz sells a marine carter fuel pump and crimped end fuel hose for the pump to carb connection if you are missing it

You will enjoy the extra HP of a vortec engine, should be basically plug and play

Thank you for the response! Have not purchased the Vortec engine yet but the one I am looking at has the wiring harness. It appears to have the fuel pump as well. From the photos, it looks like it has everything.

Swap out the squishy engine mounts (used on non-balance shaft motors) for the newer mounts
To this style? What’s the advantage to rigid mounting the Vortec? I know it has a balance shaft and the original motor is non-balanced. Less likely to wear out and screw up your out drive driveshaft alignment?
