Bought a 1987 pontoon with a 1987 evenrude 110 it doesnt have a tach on it only a speedometer and a tilt and trim guage. No hole in the dash for a tach Im assuming it had one at some point, my question is will my battery charge with out a tach, had a bass boat that wouldnt if the tach wasnt working. And if I haveto hook one up any ideas which wires, my bass boat had a plug that pluged in to the back of the throtle assembly I dont see that on this one. Any help would be great, thanks in advance

Yes - Tach has nothing to do with battery charging. Many outboards do use the stator (alternator if you will) to supply the tach signal. Your bass boat probably had a bad stator or regulator/rectifier, not a bad tach. While not impossible, a bad tach usually doesn't disable battery charging.

It is probably a good idea to get yourself a tachometer and install it on your dash. Tachs show how well or not well your engine is performing. For instance, if your boat and engine are rated for 5500 RPMs max, then you don't want to be running at 6000 or 6500 or more for very long.....would most likely ruin your pistons. It also helps in prop selection. There are many videos on YT and other web sites which explain how to drill a hole into the gelcoat in your dash as well as how to actually connect your tach to your engine and electrical system.
