Working on making a deal for a 1986 Winner boat, no idea of the size of it yet...says it has a 140hp with an alpha one lower unit, who makes that lower unit and are they any good? says the motor was new not long ago, lower unit was rebuilt, has new controls, and rebuilt the trim, the bad thing is the interior is shot. What is something like this worth in central Minnesota? Thanks for any and all input Bob

The outdrive is by Mercury, yes, if properly cared for. Why was it rebuilt?

Without additional, complete information, it is impossible to answer the rest of your query.

says the motor was new not long ago How long ago is that, and why?

has new controls Why?

rebuilt the trim Again Why?

the bad thing is the interior is shot What exactly is considered the interior, by him?

The Winner I am familiar with used very little wood in their construction. Used "top hat" style stringers, which was good, but the hull was very thin, which was bad. Allowed the hull to flex, popping the stringer loose, leading to cracks in the hull. Look for deflection of the hull, running length wise, or cross wise, where it rests on the trailer.

Check for wet/rotted transom around the outdrive, but also other places as it may have had a spot repair.

If the boat is larger than 18', it is underpowered, my opinion. Specially if it has an "interior", cuddy cabin?

its an open bow boat, sent me pics of the interior, dosent look to be that bad... looks like the varnish is peeling off of the the glove compartment...other than that not bad, dont know why any thing was replaced, if it was just improperly mainteneced or what?

It should be a standard 3.0L GM 4 cylinder cast iron engine, with a standard MerCruiser Alpha I outdrive. It is a very popular powerplant.
