1986 Sea Ray 3.0L 140 MMC Carter Fuel Pump Problem

CARTER FUEL PUMP ISSUE!!!

Just installed a tune up kit on my 1986 MCM 140 4 cyl. I changed my Filter in my pump and now it will not draw fuel from the tank! also replaced the fuel line from the tank to the pump. Any ideas??? I dont think it is the check Valve in the tank. I tried to draw fuel from a can of gas also. I filled the fuel line to the pump thinking it may need to be primed and no luck.

I know they cannot be repaired. Any Ideas? Wonder if the diaphram is streatched out or something. Or maybe I just need to replace it!

Part #2 is what you are looking for, I purchased mine from here last year.

Do a yahoo search with Part # 49089A 1 and you will find it. Use just the #'s in your search.

The new fuel pump did the trick! Boat fired right up after I replaced it. I found a nice marine Fuel Pump, Identical to the Carter that was on the boat at Orielly's Auto Parts for $98.00. Part Number: 60032 made by Airtex.

Might want to check that old pump before you throw it away. Bet when you changed the filter in the old pump that your bowl gasket didn't seal right (you did replace it didn't you) if that seal leaks it can not draw fuel into the pump.
