1986 Ranger 340 help

Have a 1986 Ranger 340 w/150 XR@ running 5900rpm @62mph wot some people say a jack plate is needed and a 24p prop running a 23p laserII prop and not much bow lift and if i trim up alot to get lift my water pressure drops to around 7psi.Motor is mounted all the way down on the transom and have tried raising it up but lose pressure and hole shot, any help will be appreciated. Every Ranger that we've worked with of that vintage needed all the help it could get with bow lift. 10" - 12" jackplate and a very good bow lifting prop like a Turbo Lightning worked pretty well.
