Well, I removed the Autoblend oil injection unit, plugged off the WP line ( don't have the gauge yet ) hooked up the fuel and the motor fired and runs. However, the upper and lowermost carbs are spitting fuel. Is this stuck floats? see clip

Here's the float setting, check them first to see if they're "fuel logged" - the hole that the fuel's spraying out of is the back drag vent. What is that hose that's hanging loose, for?

There are also filters in the tops of the carbs; I had them in my engine and threw them away!

first off thanks for your replies. I have another short video that I will post. By tapping on the carbs I got the floats to un-stick and it runs pretty good now but after I solve some more issues, with all the help i can get, I plan on rebuilding them and the water pump. I have been looking for a good rebuild kit with floats for this motor. I still need to solve my trim bleeding down problem and put the gauges that I have ordered back into the dash that i made. New seats go in tomorrow unless I go ahead and put carpet in too. Have a look at this clip and tell me what you think. Oh, by the way, the hose hanging loose is a water pressure line that I plugged off since the gauges I ordered won't be here for a week or so.

the best kit to get will be the factory merc kit from a merc dealer.

All you need is a 15psi gauge max reading. will be about 2-3 psi at idle and about 9-11psi at WOT

Well, the only WP gauge I could find was a 2-30 psi so I guess I got what I got. Did not see any under that psi. I seem to be having trouble finding carb kits for my 1986 90 hp inline. Ser# A903----- Nothing seems to correspond to that ser # set. I live in a very small town and there really aren't any Merc dealers near me that I know of so I have been just looking online for OEM kits and floats, but no luck yet.
Would like to get a fuel pump and full water pump kit as well. Sooner or later I will find this stuff I guess.

parts listed below are Merc factory parts available online from dealers like CrowleyMarine.

You need 3 of these @ $55 each
REPAIR KIT-CARB 1395-51091

fuel pump Diaphragm Assembly 89031A3 $15

water pump impeller only 47-89984T4 $30
Additional gaskets and such are available separately.

Or aftermarket impeller Sierra part # 18-3017

Thanks for your reply--- I appreciate the part numbers, I did finally find some at marineparts.com I tried boats.com by calling them since my ser#s did not match their inventory. After being on hold for more than 20 minutes a guy finally answered and then told me that since I needed parts info someone else would have to help me and put me back on hold. When on hold a recording said that it would be a minimum of another 25 minutes so I hung up the phone and have forever crossed them off my list.
I noticed that there is a new style and an old-style fuel pump kit. I would have ordered all the parts but I need to check my fuel pump to be sure of what I have. I will use your numbers and order the parts tomorrow and hopefully get them in a few days.
Thanks again.k

For all who are giving me a hand with this, I do appreciate your time and effort. Although I have some basic mechanical ability, most of this is new to me. I have worked on merc outboards a little over the last 3 years but aside from rebuilding carbs in an old 1974 85 hp and dropping the midsection on my old 1986 115 hp inline 6, I do not have much more experience than that and I feel like I'm doing this by brail sometimes, lol.

Brail is ok, till you smash your fingers. Don't ask.

Old style fuel pump is 3ish " long rectangular.

New style is square.

Pretty sure all the 1986 models had the old style, at least both of mine do.

good luck

While I am waiting on parts to arrive, I have installed an RPM and WP gauge. My controller has 5 wires coming out of the front of the box. I can't seem to find a schematic that identifies these wires. All I find is a general plug to the tac but not 5 wires. I am by no means proficient at wiring but can usually fumble my way through the job. Anyone know where I could find a schematic for this controller?

found what I needed to fix the wiring thanks. Was a good piece on the internet that identified the wires. Now if I can figure out what caused the main fuse to blow and knocked out the power to the starter and the trim I will pretty much have this thing ready to go Crappie fishing.
