I have always brought my boat in the shop for repairs but with the high cost of repairs I thought I would try to change the water pump myself.I watched on u tube on replacement of a waterpump. So here is my questions I replaced everything that I had to and replaced the lower unit everything went back together good.I put shifter in N and the prop free spins, then in R and seems to be locked where it should be,when in F it is not locked like it is in R it seems to rachet in forward gear is that normal? The other thing is when I started it on muffs the water streamed out of the hole good but I noticed that water was also spurting out of the exsaust hole on back of engine is that normal? I never noticed that before.I just hope I put everything back the way it is suppose to be.
Thanks for the help

Congrats! Sounds like you did a great job! The fact that you've got water coming out the exhaust relief ports in the back, means that there is so much more water flowing thru the motor that you're getting some out of the ports.

You'll see more flow in the water, BTW, since when you're out of the water you don't have much exhaust backpressure to push the water out of the ports.

On the ratcheting prop, I think you'll find that it only ratchets in one direction; spin it the other way and it'll lock. That's the way it's supposed to act.

Now, go and enjoy your motor and spend some of the $$ you saved on fuel for your Tower of Power!

Cheers..........ed

Sounds like the shift shaft spun while you were working on the lower unit.---Do this.---Remove lower unit.---Then put lower unit in neutral.-Then put control in neutral.---Assemble again.---Make sure lower unit is in neutral just before you slide it up.
