I have my lower unit off and was trying to get my boat into neutral but it will only come up about half way, not even far enough to get it into neutral. I hear the switch on the linkage clicking but it feels like it's hitting something

1 If the dive is removed and you cannot shift with the control box, you have overheated and fused the lower shift cable.
2 If only the lower unit was removed and you cannot shift remove the upper and retest
3 see #1

Ayuh,.... Disconnect the lower shift cable from the switch plate, to see which cable is the problem,.....

My guess is, the lower cable is Beat,.....

I may have bent the lower cable a little when trying to install the stern drive, would that cause something like this?

Cool, thanks guys, I think I probably just did something wrong. It shifted fine until I unbolted the bracket and then reinstalled it. It feels like it's caught on something.

Soooo, when installing the engine, if you get the lower cable sandwiched in the rear mount, it will not shift in reverse. Once you remove the cable, your shift and alignment issues will be solved. Thanks for the responses guys, I am sure Im gonna have to post more questions in the future but one will not be an alignment question.
