1986 Mercruiser 470 water leak

I pulled the front of the engine apart installed a speedy sleeve on the cam, new cam seals, new crank seal and all new gaskets when putting it back together.
Now has a small antifreeze leak somewhere on the the front port side of the engine that looks to be seeping out around one of the bolts. Do any the bolts need to have sealant on the threads?

Yes. Some, if not all the bolts require sealant. Perfect seal, gasket sealer or permatex thread sealer

Make sure cam seals were oriented correctly. I believe both lips face the antifreeze side. If not, it will leak immediately.

Did she overheat previously? As per their usual party trick ?
If so, what can and usually does happen, is that you won’t get a proper seal at the head, as a result of warping. The head and block are dissimilar metals. I’m afraid that once these things start their inevitable issues…it’s a chain reaction of headaches thereafter.

No, didn't overheat just had the dreaded drip out the side of the waterpump housing so I came here and found out about the cam seals leaking.

Yup, made sure they were oriented correctly

I was the 470 merc of the cam ... used the sleeve the rust pin holes ....heated that sleeve and slide it of the area ...the torque bolts 3 times 5/10/15 psi //.. use the torque wrench inches .
so I was using the anti freeze coolant 50% and the distilled water 50% ....the owner was not using the antifreeze .. the water is tap water ..LOL....

I used an old countertop toaster oven rather than a propane torch to do the heating as I was afraid the touch would be a bit much and weaken the sleeve.

Yes, I destroyed the speedy sleeve using the "install tool" that comes with the sleeve. I ended up doing as you did and heated the sleeve and it slide right into place. I used an old countertop toaster oven rather than a propane torch to do the heating as I was afraid the touch would be a bit much and weaken the sleeve.

well I did the propane torch ... I was all of those higher and lower torches ...
I was 6 torches ...I was a very small torch , slide it in the area marking ...
I was the boat mechanic talking of that sleeve installed ....I did it !
