Hey guys I'm new here and new to boats! my name is Patrick.

I just picked up a 1986 Sea sprite 195, it has a mercruiser 3.0 4cyl in it. the engine its self looks pretty clean. I have put in a new battery, new starter, and new starter slave solenoid. I have also cleaned up all the ground wires. I have 12V at the starter and the slave solenoid, the dash gauges come on fine, when I turn the key I usually get a single click and thats it. sometimes it will click a couple times, but I get nothing beyond that.

here is a video of it clicking. any help is greatly appreciated! thanks guys!

engine or outdrive is seized, pull the drive first, then retest. what your calling a click is more of a "crunch"

I have an 87 Sea Sprite 195 with the same engine that I picked up a couple months ago. Take the plugs out and see if you can get the crankshaft to rotate by pulling on the belt. If it won't move then it's seized. I had to support my engine and remove the front engine mount then turn the harmonic balancer. Thread in a couple of bolts into the holes and turn it with a breaker bar between the bolts. I used a mower blade since it was what I had laying around. I ended up soaking the pistons for a few days then wedged the mower blade in balancer and gave it a few firm, but not hard, taps to nudge it free. Then just worked it back and forth. Will rotate freely now on the starter with no issues. I just got my new starter on today and my timing is off so can't give you much more than that.

So while I have been AFK I have been very busy working on the boat and just got back to reading responses which I appreciate greatly... here is where I am at.

I pulled the out-drive off first and that wasnt seized motor still wouldent turn so I then pulled the plugs and it still wouldent spin so then I dug deep and I pulled the valve cover, the rods, and then the head and exhaust manifold as one unit... and 2 cylinders are seized up :( the boat had sat for quite a while with the carb open and water was able to get in through the intake and sit on 2 of the pistons and just wreck it. I'll post a photo of it as soon as I can.

got a good friend thats searching his shop now to see if he has a short block that spins, cause I'm poor and cant afford a new motor :( hence why I have a project boat in the first place.

I should know more about that tomorrow afternoon and will go from there :) and I will continue to update everyone as I continue this project / restoration :)
