1986 mercruiser 190

I have a 1986 190, that runs great,idles great,shifts great,..but it has a hard time starting..cranks good all day long,but acts like its loosing its prime when I shut it down......any ideas? what if I put an inline ball primer in? think that would help or just flood it out..I'm stumped because it runs so good......please help

Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,...... This '86, 190, is a 4 cylinder, 4bbl. carb, Right,..??..??

Have you checked, 'n changed the fuel filter lately,..??
Have you investigated the carb,..??

There's no reason you should need a primer bulb,...

hi thanks for reply..yes put new inline fuel filter in..and tried carb cleaner..they look pretty good,cant see any dirt or gunk..what's baffling me is it runs and idles so good,,so its getting plenty of fuel,once started..just have to crank it for 3 or 4 mins to get it started..that's the problem..

Ayuh,..... A carb tear-down, 'n rebuild might be a good idea,...
The ole quadrajet carbs can leak, internally, which can cause hard starts,....
If shut off for a short time, it'll be a flooded start,..... longer term, the bowls need to refill from the fuel pump,....

ok thanks,,gonna concentrate on checking and cleaning carb,,also gonna clean the gas tank vent tube..thanks again..
