Hey all. I had the carbs on my merc 86 50hp recently rebuilt and after I reinstalled them I squeezed the bulb prior to start up and after a few pumps gas just came pouring out of the hole on the upper left side (jet vent bowl?) and out of the tube in the carb (nozzle?) on both carbs. Is this normal, as I never had seen this prior to the rebuild? My first thought was that the guy who rebuilt it left something out or did not adjust the floats, but I would like to check here before I start pointing fingers. Any suggestions? Thanks, Don

That upper left side hole is your idle jet and it shouldn't be leaking. Can you see if there is a gasket on it? What do you mean "tube in the carb"? The choke tube fitting or fuel tube fitting. Both of which should leak either

Second thought, I could be way off about the idle jet. You may have different carbs than I do. I have dual bowl, dual float carbs. If this is what you've got then what I said is correct, if you have different carbs, they still shouldn't be leaking

Thanks, the carbs are the single float type. Motor serial no. A72??33? The hole on the upper left or just above middle on the left does have a brass screw or something in it and the old one is in the bag of old parts the rebuild guy gave me back. The idle or mixture screws are on the right side on this carb type. The nozzle I'm talking about is the brass tube about 3/4 inches inside the mouth. Any ideas? Don
