I just bought a 1986 Mariner 60HP with tilt and trim for $700.00 plus my 1985 50HP Evinrude. I've noticed that the prop that came with the Mariner is smaller than the 50hp Evinrude. Is that OK.. I mean the Mariner has more HP than the Evinrude...

The engine is currently being mounted and I won't be able to pick it up til tomorrow. My mechanic said that the 10 1/4 X 15 that's in it right now will be perfect for it... What woud be the best diameter and pitch for this engine on a 15' bass boat?

10.25 x 15 sounds close to right for the size of motor and boat but I'm not used to bass boats. Check your W-O-T rpm against the recommended w-o-t range when she runs. If you can get at or near w-o-t rpm then the prop is right. Main thing is to be careful not to over-rev if you are trying motor for first time on that boat -- you can damage the motor.

Tex, you might find the 15 pitch prop a bit much if this is goin on a fiberglass boat....12 to 13 pitch is usually the ballpark....these shorter boats are very weight sensitive, so load it the way you normally run when testing for props...
