I have spent many hours searching this forum, and while I have found much needed information, Im still having a problem I hope someone can help with.
New to me 86 Mariner 115, Was told it may have a bad stator.
Here is what I have done so far
Compression all 125-130
New CDI stator
Rebuilt fuel pump
Soaked and rebuilt carbs, new needle and seats, floats and jets (were chewed up by screwdriver)
One new Sierra switch box (had a broken stud)
Repaired wiring harness
New plugs
Replaced coil ends on plug wires ( had screw in terminals, just barely hanging in coils! )
Fresh fuel 40:1 since I wasnt sure how long engine sat, wanted a little extra at first
ALL new fuel lines, new inline filter
Link and sync
New CDI rectifier
New water pump
Checked spark, will jump 7/16 gap all 6
Backed boat into lake strapped on trailer Saturday and adjusted carbs for Idle, and idle in gear. Idling in gear great, starting easy. Was too windy to test off trailer.
Went back yesterday, Stated perfect idled out to lake perfect. Here is problem will NOT rev pass 2000 rpm, I tried readjusting carbs, even played with timing a little. Nothing helped. I actually sat back there with someone else driving and tried to adjust it.
The boat is a 16 Ft Kingfisher Bass boat, and Im swinging a 19p stainless prop.
One thing I read in CDI instructions was to try and move stator one bolt setting back, I am going to try it this evening. Also when repairing coil wires one coil had a black residue in plug wire receptacle, and it looks a little discolored that the rest, its coil #3. I already have a new one, just forgot about it.
Also checked plugs last night, all looked good except 3 which still looked new.
Everything Ive read seems to point to a bad stator, just want to make sure before I call CDI
Any Suggestions???
