Hi, I just bought a 1986 KMV 1700 HT boat, with a non working outboard. These boats are rare, but I've seen a few with 60hps, one with a 90, but I feel that the boat may be underpowered by those. I got my eye on a 1993 115hp Evinrude, but fear that I may be overdoing it, even though the dealer suggests that the motor will be appropriate.
That boat is no longer manufactured in Canada, and I can't get any official suggestions for powerage.
I estimate that the boat alone probably weights just over 1000 pounds, and it has sort of a soft V hull. I will probably be riding it with 4 to 6 people on board, most times either on Lake Erie or Lake Ontario.
Any suggestions on the motor or boat will be appreciated.
Thanks
Victor

It should be a screamer if set-up right. You need to be very cautious in taking 4-6 folk out in Lake Erie/Ontario - small boat/big engine/lotta folk = potential disaster especially if you add a taste here and there.

Thank you for your reply - really appreciated. I learned very soon that I have to respect the 115 Evinrude on this boat, but it feels very comfortable to drive it. I'm careful not to perform sudden accelerations or turns, and keep a good eye on the tilt.

I'm faced with a small isuue, though - one of the side windows is broken and now the problem is to find a new lock for it. Any clue where I might be able to find boat parts? This is the nightmare of being atracted to a rarity, I guess..
