Hi Basser, When it starts to lose power try pushing in on your primer and see if it picks up.

Basser,

Check all of your fuel lines. I have had problems with the plastic "tie-wrap" type hose clamps breaking and causing the engine to suck air. I noticed the problem more when trying to accelerate. Pushing the primer will help momentarily but, your real problem is a fuel obstruction or sucking air.

Good Luck

http://www.hunt-fish.com

Re: 1986 johnson intermittent power loss

I had been battling the same thing with my 1988 Johnson with high rpm rollback. And after replacing fuel tank (Because of rust) primer ball and line and filter with no results I did a Carb rebuild and solved my problem. :) Oh yea the carb kits cost me about 14 bucs apiece, but tedious care should be taken when rebuilding carbs and hooking fuel hoses back up with the proper tie wraps. This is the last thing I would do after I had done the old start from easiest to worst case senario, like checking fuel pickup, is your tank vent working properly? Is primer bulb and line working normal? Is filter unabstructed? fuel lines properly connected without looseness or tears? Goodluck and hope all goes well for you.
