Hello all. First-time poster, long time guest.

I am in the process of getting a little more boat for offshore fishing (1-2 miles) and family fun (beach, water-skiing, etc.). I currently have a 1989 17' Whaler Montauk with a 1999 Evinrude 50 HP 4-stroke and I'm looking at buying an older model 20' Hydra Sport (1986, 2000 DC) powered by a mint 2004 Johnson 150 2-stroke. Here are my questions that I hope you guys can help me out with:

(1) In skimming through this forum as well as a few others (Hull Truth), there seems to be some concern about the structural integrity of HS hulls from the mid-80s. Any thoughts on the truth/facts behind this? The boat I'm looking at appears to be in excellent shape with no evidence of cracking anywhere.

(2) Will I be underpowered with a Johnny 150 on this boat? Normal passengers are 3-4 adults, and I'm curious as to what i can expect at WOT with that load.

(3) What would be a reasonable price for this boat and engine?

Thanks in advance for any feedback you can provide me with on these questions!

No thoughts? How about on at least questions 1 & 2?

Re: 1986 Hydra Sport 2000 DC

Years ago a good friend of mine had a 21' Boston Whaler that we used in the bays and gulf of mexico off of Texas. (I think it was either an '88 or '89 model), but it was a pretty heavy boat, and it had a 150hp johnson (much older than 99!), and the boat would run anywhere from 40-44mph at WOT. 150 is enough to push you around well. Don't know anything about your #1 other than my buddy never had a problem with his hull. No idea what you would pay, but you can expect to pay extra for a boat with a new motor. Price them on boat trader online and take an average.
