I have been lurking on here for a year or so. Lat August I traded for a 1986 Bayliner with 85 hp Force motor. I have had no problems with it so far but i have gotten alot of tips and things to watch out for on here. Anyways, took the boat out for the first time this year yesterday. Hook up and go to the gas station to get gas. When i go to put the gas can in the boat i notice the motor is not up in traveling position. The bolt holding the bracket sheard off. Any thoughts on how to fix? Thanks in advance..

You should have had a trailering bracket.Sounds like you didn't.DSo you have Trim/Tilt? Post a pic of the broken part. J

If you don't have trim.tilt, that bolt is only designed for holding the engin up during storage. It will not stand the stress of trailering. It bolt is a shouldered 5/16 thread so you can drill it out and replace it with a 3/8 bolt. However, the head on a standard 3/8 bolt is too thick so you would need to grind it down a bit.

Don't trailer like that again. Buy or make a trailering bracket to hold up the engine.

dublg, it will look like this but i would search e-bay or craigslist first, i have seen them low as 20 bucks. new price is expensive.

... you might get away temporarily with a transom saver. you can add one to your trailer and hold up your o/b like shown below. those savers are about $30 bucks at most large outdoor fitters.

good luck

I show them as still available new from mercury at around $20 each. Try part number F5H179.
