Re: 1986 Force 50 Starter

Hi there jc.
We are not allowed to buy or sell here on iboats, as this is their commercial site. iboats doesn't currently have a replacement listed in their MALL.

A complete new starter is available from Mercury, part number 50-898265011 About $190.

Also, there are used ones on ebay every week or two. New ones on ebay also, but I'm not sure which ones will fit.

WHOA there, jc canvas!

One of my pet peeves in the outboard world is the replacement of parts that might not need replacing. Three out of five replaced starters are good or at least easily fixed. An auto starter rebuilder can make one like new for a LOT less than the cost of a new one, for example.

Could you ease my mind that you aren't about to waste a couple hundred bux?

How did you determine that the starter needs to be replaced?

Oh, and welcome to iboats. :)

Hi JB,
The force 50 came free in a deal on another boat w/motor I baught to rebuild.. the starter is missing.. the motor turned freely and seems to have good compression so it's worth pursuing.
The most inexpensive (used) starter I have found was on e-bay but I'm still looking.
Jan
