1986 Exhaust: Where From?

Guys,

I am considering the purchase of a 1986 Johnson 25hp, which I know nothing about. At idle I get exhaust and sputtering water from the two small holes just below the engine. When I wind it up I get gushing bubbles coming from somewhere down below the water in my rain barrel. Where is the exhaust supposed to be? This is NOT a through-prop exhaust motor.

The main exhaust outlet is behind the propeller.
The two holes at the top/middle of the leg is exhaust relief holes and bothe exhaust and water will exit. How much water depends on thermostat open or not.
From your description all looks normal.
