1986 Evinrude 25hp Carb Question

First time posting / used iboats forums many times for research. Just purchased a 1986 Evinrude 25 hp (E25RCDC) and it runs but rough. Compression is good (110 psi both cylinders). After looking the carb over and doing some research it appears as though someone has monkey rigged a hose coming from the manual primer. No offense meant to monkeys. I'd greatly appreciate input to confirm my suspicion. The attached pictures tell the story. Also, is there supposed to be a cover / silencer on front of the carb? Not used to see carb intakes open like this although several photos of similar engines on the net are open as well. Greatly appreciate any input. Thanks

that hose is rigged for sure. there is supposed to be an air filter in front of carb, but I run my e35ecsm also without it.

Yep the hose goes to the broken nipple, when you prime the motor it spits fuel directly into the intake for initial cold start, The motor does not have a air filter but instead had a plastic air silencer box mounted to the front of the carburetor, aside from a bit of extra engine noise it will run fine without the silencer.

Welcome aboard, Tom.
I have basically the same motor. Unfortunately, I don't think that nipple is a replaceable part.

The air silencer was eliminated on the '82 model. The fiberglass hood does a pretty good job of keeping the noise down.
Good luck.

Jasper60103 - I looked, without any luck, for a new nipple for a few hours this morning. A local marine parts supplier told me I'd have to get a new carb (not happening). I chucked a 1/8" brass hose barb into my drill (makeshift lathe) and with a file and sandpaper gradually worked it down to where it fit in the carb body. A little two-part epoxy and it worked like a charm. The motor is purring like a kitten. Next job - conversion to electric start.

Thanks for your reply.

A little ingenuity always prevails. Good job.
