Hello, I have 1986 Evinrude 25hp outboard pull start that was used in saltwater. The previous owner did not maintain the motor and let it sit outside for 8 years. I followed the procedures mentioned here for starting a sleeping motor. The motor ran briefly without any issues. So I started to replace or rebuild the recommended parts. I was unable to remove 1 lower unit bolt due to saltwater corrosion. So I decided it was better to send it into the shop rather than break the lower unit housing. The shop looked over the motor and estimated $650.00 for rebuilding carb, water pump, replace fuel lines, thermostat, head gasket and some electrical parts. Do you think its worth repairing for $650+/-? I plan on using the motor from now to the middle of january.
thanks any advise would be appreciated
