Hello, I have 1986 Evinrude 25hp outboard pull start that was used in saltwater. The previous owner did not maintain the motor and let it sit outside for 8 years. I followed the procedures mentioned here for starting a sleeping motor. The motor ran briefly without any issues. So I started to replace or rebuild the recommended parts. I was unable to remove 1 lower unit bolt due to saltwater corrosion. So I decided it was better to send it into the shop rather than break the lower unit housing. The shop looked over the motor and estimated $650.00 for rebuilding carb, water pump, replace fuel lines, thermostat, head gasket and some electrical parts. Do you think its worth repairing for $650+/-? I plan on using the motor from now to the middle of january.

thanks any advise would be appreciated

welcome to iboats! its hard to answer your question..but what is the overall condition of the powerhead ie compression? how much are you into it for as it sits? if you were to get a nice running 25hp for $650, it may be worth it, if it will end up costing more than that i would personally start looking for another motor. jmo
