Sounds like a carb and/or lync and sync issue. I had the same problem and the mechanic found that the carbs were not adjusted properly and not synced properly. Also will need to check the timing when doing anything with carb and lync adjustments. Get a clymer manual which gives you step by step instructions if you are mechanically inclined or if you're like me (i gave up trying and took it to a mechanic).

Most issues with boats running fine on muffs then bogging down under acceleration in the water is fuel related. Not always, but mostly. I would check the fuels lines, pump and filter as well as carbs jets and float needles. If all checks out ok and not fuel issues, move to elctrical, but that is another story...

I dealt with the same problem this summer with my 1989 85 Force. Here's what I did. Runs good now.

1. Changed the fuel line from tank to pump including the primer bulb. If you have a quick disconnect, change or clean that too as it will gunk up over time and restrict fuel flow.
2. Replaced the diaphragm and 3 check valves in the fuel pump. (total cost about $20). If your check valves are orange, then they are the old kind that breakdown in ethanol. Change them. New ones are gray.
3. cleaned and rebuilt all 3 carbs.
4. new plugs.
5. drained the tank and added fresh fuel/oil with a bottle of dry gas.

That should either get her running good, or rule out a fuel issue.

Re: 1986 bayliner bogging

Sounds familiar, but I'm going to give you another reason. My 84 with an 88 125hp ran great last year, last trip in November had an issue in rough seas, and boat barely ran at WOT, wrote if off as bad gas(didn't havemuch in tank) and flushed system, and new filters). This year take the boat out, and it would barely hit 10mph, no extra smoke, not overheating, fuel bulb hard, filter new, no leaks, idled fine (tho low). Take the boat out, run it in tub, on muffs, sounded good. Well I then decided to check spark, at idle only 2 cylinders would fire,(checked with induction light) ohm out coils only 1 had readable values. It turns out a ignition box was bad and with the weak coils the plugs would fire weak. When its out of the water the back pressure on the exhaust is very low and a weak spark can fire easier. In the water, its much harder to fire the plugs. In my opinion a symptom of a weak ignition is the extra use of the choke to start or keep it running til warmed up. Once I replaced the complete set of coils and boxes(complete set from a running motor for $270) the motor starts with no effort, very little choke and idles much higher and smoother)

Just my thoughts
