Hi all, looking for some opinions and thoughts on this. Was at the lake over the fourth doing some tubing and the boat was running great. At one point we dropped some people off at the dock and as i was backing a way there was a clunk and the engine killed. Started back up and put in reverse and clunk, engine died. Then it struck me, i raised the outdrive and asked the one in the back if the rope was in the prop. Sure enough it was wrapped around a number of times but we were able to unwravel it fairly easily. It was visible that the prop "ring" was bent in from the rope tightening around it so we loaded it on the trailer and took it up to the camper for closer inspection.

After looking, the prop needs to be replaced, but there was no other visible damage. I also ran it on the muffs just to make sure everything else was OK. Then i heard it, a "tick" coming from the outdrive. I took the prop off and ran it again and it was still there, but only in forward gear. No ticking in reverse, only forward. I couldn't exactly tell where it was coming from, depending on where you stood, if it was from the upper or the lower.

Again, it's an '86 Alpha One and I'm thinking either a gear or the clutch dog but am looking for other ideas before i take it in to the shop.
