1986 85hp Serial Number

Plate missing. Any idea how to determine serial number? The plate is supposed to be on the bracket. Not there and not anywhere on engine.

On my parts motor the tag is where you said it should be. Other than that is there anyway to determine the model spec to simplify ordering parts?

Fortunately, the specific model doesn't matter for many common parts. The model year will do. If your parts motor is also a 1986, use its model number if you need one to look up stuff. You can also compare specific parts to ensure they're the same.
