I have a 1986' 85hp Force Engine and after many years of good use I've run into a few problems that I am having a problem troubleshooting.
1st) there are 3 carbs stacked on top of one another and I believe the lower carb is for the idle. The engine wouldn't start/idle so I adjusted each carb and i think i made it worse. What is the correct carb adjustment (how many screw-turn adjustments for each carb?)?
2nd) I've noticed a milky white substance coming from the carburetors that I beleive is water mixing with the 2 cycle fuel...where do i begin and is this the reason the boat all of a sudden won't idle??
3rd) Where can I find a water pump and fuel pump for this seemingly obsolete engine???

Re: 1986 85 Force

Hi Charles
There are three carbs, one for each cylender. Each carb has a high speed and low speed circut. Usually the high speed is fixed (non adjustable)in this case. I would certainly investigate your fuel tank, from what you say,it sounds as if there may be water in it. It wouldn't be the first time.If I were you I would invest $30.-$40. bucks in a manual. I just bought two after market books myself today at my marine store. One for Chrysler and one for Force. One is a Clymer brand the other is Seloc. They are both exelent and give all the info necessary to keep your motor running tops. Brunswick corp (Mercury) Bought out Force some time back. You should be able to get most needed parts from a Merc dealer. Also Napa will be able to order parts for you as well as manuals. Iboats will sell you parts and books.

Try staring at 1-1/2 turns ea. carb. The milky white substance Thats coming from Your carburetors IS WATER IN THE GAS I HAD THE SAME problem. Dump the gas and put 2 ounces of Dry Gas for 5.5gal. OK go for a ride then pull ea. of the plug if is black turn down 1/4 turn on that carb.
if blue turn up 1/4 on that carb.
eheaven
Paul
