1986 65HP Suzuki with VRO, running problems

I'm having problems with the outboard on my boat. The motor runs fine at an idle for extended periods of time. On the lake again at an idle it still runs perfect. When it is taken to full power it acts like it's starving for fuel and then shuts off. When I tried to restart it would not crank over (no clicking, no anything). After running it back to the dock with the kicker (25min.) it started fine.
After it shut down on the lake I pulled the cover and hand checked the cylinders for overheating. I could lay my hands on it for several seconds with no burns. When I got it home I pulled the cover off and there is oil laying around the base of the power head. Is there anything on the motor that shut it down if it overheats? The warning buzzer for overheat did not go off. The oil leads me to think the VRO is not getting oil into the fuelbecause of a leak. Would to low of an oil to fuel ratio cause my problems? If someone to tell me the procedure for unhooking the VRO, I would rather premix the oil either way. Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

Tear into the fuse holder and make sure the connections are all sound.

The oil inside the cover might just be from the ooops while refilling the oil tank if it is also under the hood.

Check your battery connections and the grounds at the engine. Is the battery charging when it's running?

The oil injection on Suzuki's is pretty reliable and most likely not the problem. Check all your fuel line and also the fuel pump. The fuel pump diaphrams wear out over time and could cause not only a fuel leak but hard starting and no power.

Hello Yepblaze and Joe S.
Thanks for the info. Their is no gas smell but oil has a blackish look. It does not look like its coming from top of filler. Having been a Paramedic x 20 plus i'm real good at fixing up two legged engines but when it comes to this i have a friend who is helping get it all together. Being a new member I sure appreciate the input and the help you provide. Battery came with boat and will check that out too. Again thanks

you can tell a fisherman is lying because usually his lips are moving
