1986 50 force

Hello I have a 1986 50hp force. New fuel pump. New impeller. New carb kit. Starts beautiful cold but after running across the lake to restart again it has trouble idling. Any suggestions??? this motor only ran for about two years and sat the rest of the time, so no hours on it. Was bought in later part of 1986
and last in water in 1989.

Idle mix screw 1 1/4 out ...first thing to check

First do a compression spark test.The 50 can run pretty good on 1 cylinder.Then check the fuel system.The fuel pump diaphram is probably dried out and not working right.If it's set that long the carb needs to be cleaned.Ethanol is messing with older hoses and rubber.Replace any inline connectors too.
What's the idle set at?750-800 in gear and warm.
The impeller could be shot too.Letting the motor get hot and not running right.

I am going to bring it to a shop that will run it in a tank. like I said waterpump, fuel pump,carb kit new. I just think that it just needs to be set back to factory specks and just maybe the impeller was run for some time with no water????( not me )but I had a guy reset linkage and he started it infront of me for just 15sec or so. I asked if that was a good thing to do and he said that it had enough water it and was not a problem> I was always told and read NEVER NEVER NEVER run a motor with no water no matter how long. I will let you all know. thank you

NEVER start for any length of time.1 second can be too much!!!15 is way too long.
That motor need s a special muff.The big one don't fit right see the pic.J

thank you jerry, that is what I was thinking, so now I guess it looks like a new water pump. I found that muff on amazon for $18 good price or what???
