so on my aquasport i have from what it looks like is the original motor.. so heres my issues.. 1) the tach doesnt work, it will go up to 1k rpm and stop.. then it doesnt work at all.. kinda weird.. i got it from a buddy and it was working when he gave it to me. 2) this thing SMOKES.. not as in well duh its an old 2 stroke kind of smoke.. 3) it sounds really rough..
im pretty handy with a wrench and not completely stupid but i have no idea where to start, as this is out of my expertise. heres whats been done so far.. i cleaned up as much corrosion as i could on everything and got all the electrical connectors cleaned up really good..new wiring under the console. new plugs and new fuel from a portable gas can.. i guess the next place to look would be compression.. thank you for taking the time to read

so i just went out about 1/2 hour later and there is a puddle of watery oil on the ground under the engine.. it smells like 2 stroke oil.. the vro pump has been bypassed and the oil/ gas is premixed to 50:1

Others will chime in but was that engine winterized with a ton of fogging oil or seafome put in each cylinder? I would do the compression test and the spark test and also a decarb. The oil on the ground looks to be unburned fuel/oil which I see all the time out of my 150.

carbs have been rebuilt, forgot to mention that.. its a texas boat so its never been winterized to my knowledge.. that smoke was after about 10 minutes of running but it happens instantly.. spark plugs are brand new champions and it jumps a 7/16 spark gap.. i think i need to do a compression test and a leak down to make/ plan my next move..

Probably need to do a decarb using seafoam; must have a lot of carbon build-up in the cylinders. Instructions are available in the stickys.
