I have a 1985 Chris Craft Scorpion 210 Bowrider With a 5.0 liter OMC 305 chevy small block that was running great last season. I felt like cocket & tubbs from miami vice on lake michigan. To get it that way I took it to the shop and $800.00 later they replaced the distributor, cap, rotor, points, condensor, plugs, ignition coil and timed it. It gets gas and cranks but won't fire. I tried to trace back the spark and ended up replacing the ignition coil again($25)but that didn't work. I am a new boater but can't sent anymore money at the shop. Any advice.........Thanks.

Measure the voltage at the coil to see what you have there. Measure it both with points closed and points open.

Make sure your safety lanyard is plugged in or bypass it.

:confused:I Got a voltage tester and tested the coil, with the key on get 4.30 volts. and 8.30 when someone turns the key. I get 12v from the battery and 12v @ the starter solenoid. The pionts are opening & closing. Any ideas why I can't get enough voltage to fire this motor???

When you say you're not getting a spark, do you mean that you pulled a wire off the plug and tried to arc it and nothing happened?

You may be getting a spark, but if they replaced the distributor and coil (incidentally that's real easy to do and you could do it yourself for $250 in parts) then the first thing I'd check is whether they put the plug wires back in the right order. If they are mis-ordered, all you'll get is the starter cranking it around w/o any kick.

Why can't you have the shop finish the job? Did you talk to them about the boat not starting when you got it back, or did it run, then develop this problem?
