1985 OMC 5.0 ltr gets no spark..HELP!!!!!

I got a voltage tester and the battery tested 12v.I tested at the starter and it tested 12v.I test at the ignition coil in the key on position and it was 4.30v & 8.30v when I crank it.The points do open & close. What am I missing. All advice is appreciated.

Change the points and condenser. Cheap insurance.

If that doesn't work, change the coil. Again, not expensive and sometimes quicker than trying to find the problem with a meter.

Julio,

You should stick to one thread and add your updates to the one thread. 4.3V is very low. When you make that measurement, you are grounding the multimeter to the block right?

As a test, you can jumper straight from the battery to the + side of the coil and see if you get spark that way.
